“Teenagers Plead 5th During Liquor Hearing”  refused to tell the Liquor Commission whether they obtained 2 quarts of beer from a Rockford Tavern prior to their assault July 28.the pair refused any testimony on the grounds that it might incriminate them. As attorney for La Cantina, Matthew Cicero agreed with this position

“Liquor Case Hearing Set Next Week” Frank G. Saladino, 18, 1103 Kent St. and his cousin, Joe Saladino, Jr, 18, 1628 Montague St, both charged with the rape of a Rockford girl will be summoned next week before the Rockford Liquor Commission, regarding purchase of liquor as minors. They obtained 2 quarts of beer from la Cantina Bar and Restaurant, also known as Italian Village, at 802 Cunningham, La Cantina Bar and Restaurant is licensed to Elena Zaccari, 810 Cunningham St. The liquor commission can suspend or revoke a liquor license for code violations

“Package Liquor Permit Granted” County supervisors, by a 21-15 vote amended the liquor control resolution to allow a package liquor store to operate at 3912 Preston St. License  was granted to Vincent J. Vitale, 34, 2604 Sherman Ave., Vincent Vitale, 67, 3912 Preston St and George Perno, 45, 415 N. Day Ave. They now operate a grocery store at the Preston St. address. Application for the permit was made Feb. 28

Liquor – Traffic

“2 Plead Guilty in Liquor Theft”  charges of having received liquor stolen from the Moose Club. Robert Wittbecker,21, 1727 Hamilton Rd. and John E. Grady, 22, 212 No Church St. a bartender at the Palmer House tavern. The liquor was obtained from David Vrtue, 29, 120 So Church St. who has confessed to taking five cases of whiskey from the club. He is being held on a grand larceny charge.
