George Anne Duckett, obituary

George Anne Duckett, 1939-2019, represented District 12 for 14 years on the Winnebago County Board. She was active in the Democratic Party and was Vice-President of the Rockford Neighborhood and Development Corporation and received the Points of Light, presidential award from President George H. W. Bush for that organization’s work (1991). Duckett was also publisher and owner of the VItal Force newspaper for more than 20 years. She was a member of the NAACP, NCNW, Rainbow Push Coalition, ACLU Southern Poverty Law Center and the Democratic National Committee. Source: Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford, VA

Rockford airport to add 500 jobs

Job expansion continues at the Chicago Rockford International airport with Pinnacle Logistics hiring both permanent and seasonal workers. Amazon’s Prime Air cargo fleet and USP are growing. A $9 million federal grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation was announced by Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth and Representative Cheri Bustos.

Your Advance Fuel Oil Ration

“Your Advance Fuel Oil Ration” letter, May 15, 1943, from the Office of Price Administration, Rationing Division, Seattle, Washington. When received, the letter would have included Fuel Oil Coupons, which would have been used to heat the home. The letter included tips for conserving as much fuel oil as possible. Found in a 1943 East High School Yearbook; no ration coupons found, as they would have been used.
