34 East High School grads killed in World War II: Staff Sgt. Sven Arnold Zetterberg, Joe Tangorra, Robert D. Kinney, Staff Sgt. James Sanden, Marine Cpl. Donald L. Johnson, Pfc. Arthur D. Johnson (hit by a drunk driver in Rockford and killed). Donald R. Dunberg, and others.

34 Gold Star Boys from East represent about 10% of the total loss in WWII for Winnebago County.
