Train Engine “Rockford” – Illinois Central RR

Photograph of train, page 558

“…a previously published picture dated May 30, 1887, shows a much earlier Illinois Central partner.  The picture captures a construction scene on the Chicago Madison and Northern, which was building the link between Chicago west to Freeport (connecting the upper ends of the Charter Line “Y”). The engine, at far left in the picture, named the Rockford. Note the horses employed and the visitors, out on a Sunny Spring day, watching all the commotion.”
