The U.S. Patent office formerly issued annual volumes of patents that year.  Many of those patents are now on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office website, .  A weekly  Official Gazette for Patents is published in 2015.

**Notice that William Burson’s and John Nelson’s signatures are both on the patent above.  For a time the two men were in business together.  Eventually each ran his own business: the Nelson Knitting Co. and the Burson Knitting Co.  John Nelson’s sons operated the Forest City Knitting Co.
