Spong, Gerald E.

Gerald E. Spong,, 89, son of Frank and Alice Spong of Minneapolis, was born June 22, 1925, in Sargeant, Minnesota.

1943 graduate from Central High School in St. Paul, Minnesota.

He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II from 1944- 1946.

Employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.

Member Christ United Methodist Church.

Died Sept. 16, 2014 at Presence Cor Mariae.

Survived by three children and their spouses, three grandchildren and a brother.

Memorial Service at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Inurnment at Scandinavian Cemetery.

Kunz, William J.

Born Sept. 28, 1921, in Bergenfield, NJ, to William Peter and Frances Eldershaw Kunz.

Veteran of WWII, having served with the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Division from 1942-1945, as a field artillery forward observer for the 15th Infantry Regiment.  William participated in Ten Campaigns, including five amphibious landings in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Southern France, Ardennes-Alsace, Germany and Austria. Awards include the Purple Heart, Bronze Star with “V” Presidential Distinguished Unit Citattion and French Croix-De-Guerre, plus associated battle stars.

Author of “Third and Ten, 3rd Infantry Division in WWII.”

Electronics engineer in the Barber Colman Company.

Musician in the New York City area.

Charter member in 1956 in Christ United Methodist Church.

Died; no date listed.

Countryside Funeral Homes and Crematory; Arlington Cemetery.
