Christian Henry

Christian Henry, died last night at 8:20 p.m. of Brights disease after a long period of suffering.

“For the last 2 weeks, he has had no use of his right lung.”

“He was 49 years old and came to Rockford in 1860. At that time he was a member of the band belonging to Miles Orton’s circus, which disbanded here, and together with August Dedrickson resolved to make their home in Rockford. He has been engaged in the restaurant and saloon business in the same location of East State St. for 16 or 17 years.”

“He was born in Bavaria and came o this country when he was about 19.”

“He leaves a wife and five children; 3 boys.”

“Deceased was a member of Germania Gesang Verein, and that organization will attend to the obsequies in a body.”

“Henry-Kleber House, 112 Glen Road.  Designed by Lawrence Buck, Chicago architect and colleague and competitor of Frank Lloyd Wright, the house was built in 1906 by Christian Henry, prominent downtown Rockford merchant. Now the John Kleber residence, the house has been researched by the Frank Lloyd Wright Institute of Evanston as a significant early 20th-century structure.”
