Phoenix Furniture Factory – 1891

Phoenix Furniture Factory. Located at the corner of Fulton Ave. and Latham St., North End; are manufacturers of chamber suits, extension tables, and chiffoniers; organized July 1, 1890, with a capital stock of $50,000, with Ed. H. Marsh, President, George Penfield, Vice President; Chas. E. Coho, Secretary and Treasurer; employ 100 hands, with an annual payroll of $36,500; estimated annual output $125,000. The buildings are brick, 128 x 80 feet, four stories high and a basement, engine room 40 x 50 feet.

Plant destroyed by fire in Oct. 1892. No water mains extended to this location at that time for use in putting out the fire.

The 1892 Winnebago County Atlas shows Phoenix Furniture Co. in the Northwest corner of Fulton Ave. and Latham St., currently (2014) occupied by Latham Tap at 2402 Latham St.
