Harlem Park Annex

Harlem Park annex

“A petition to annex to Rockford the property lying north of the city limits was presented and referred to the judicial committee. The petitioners want the matter submitted to a vote of the people at the next election. The proposed annexation would include Harlem park, a mausoleum, the three cemeteries, West Side, Catholic and Jewish, and other property in that vicinity. Considerable opposition to the petition is expected. The proprietors of Harlem park object to the amusement place being under city supervision, and fear they would not be permitted to operate Sundays.”
