“Representatives of 23 Rockford war veterans who have organized to promote the building of their individual homes as one project are pictured above scanning a map on which are outlined the 23 northwest section lots on which their homes will be built. Known as the Better Homes Club, the organization hopes to cut costs and expedite construction by pooling priorities and GI loans. Kneeling and holding the map are, left to right,  Ray Anderson, 628 North Court street, navy veteran with service in three theaters of war, and W.T. Hebert, ex-Seabee and one of the first nine Americans to set foot on European soil during the war, at Salerno, Italy. Behind them, left to right, are Charles Hulstedt, 509 South 3rd street, veteran of Pacific service with the navy, and his wife, Mary, and Beverly Trank, with her husband, LaVerne,  also of 509 So. Third St.. Trank, a paratrooper, served with the 101st airborne division.:
