Amerock

Plant on Auburn Street,  1 million sq. ft.,  sold for $2 million in December.

Bought by company that cleans up, renovates, then resells the properties.

4000 Auburn Street, opened in 1956 and was expanded several times.

Expanded in 1960, 1962, 1965, 1968, and 1973.

Largely vacant since 2005.

One of two properties bought by Denovo from Newell Rubbermaid

Newell Rubbermaid was based in Freeport until 2004 when headquarters moved to Atlanta.

The other property is 125,000 sq. ft. in Bellwood just east of I290-294 interchange

At its peak, Amerock employed 1,500 people

Largest hardware manufacturer in the country.

In 1987, Amerock was sold to Newell Rubbermaid

By 2004 there were only 450 manufacturing workers in the plant.
