“In 1964, Gov. Otto Kerner signed articles of dedication for Illinois Beach Nature Preserve, the first area to be placed in the Nature Preserves System. At right is George B. Fell, secretary of the Illinois Nature Preserves.  William T. Lodge,  Director of the Illinois Department of Conservation, is at left.”

In 2000, Natural Land Institute purchased a 721 acre farm near Rockton

Raccoon Creek runs through property

restored to 100 acres of prairie, 150 acres of woodland, 450 acres of wetlands

Ill Dept of Natural Resources & U S Fish and Wildlife funded restoration of creek
