Peterson, Sgt. Elmer L.

“Sgt. Elmer L. Peterson Presumed To Be Dead” “while the army has not given up hope that he will yet be found alive, your son, for more than a year, since May 19, 1943, and we are marking our records ‘presumed to be dead.” Son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest R. Peterson, 1520 5th Ave, Sergeant Peterson was a crew member aboard an aircraft which disappeared near Kiel, Germany while on a combat mission. He entered the service spring of 1942. Attended Wight, Lincoln Junior High and the old Central High School, member of Our Savior’s Lutheran church, sang with choir and solo. A brother, Cpl. LaVerne Peterson is now in England.

“Purple Heart Awarded to Sgt. Elmer Peterson” The Purple Heart award has been sent to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Peterson, parents of Technical Sgt. Elmer L. Peterson, who was reported missing in action May 19, 1943. He was a radio operator-gunner on a bomber in the AAF.
