Memorial Day - 1

“World war 2 veterans will march in the 1st postwar Memorial day parade at 9 a. m. today from West State and Winnebago streets to Cedar Bluff cemetery, where tributes will be paid to war dead of the city and nation.  Philip Peterson, 22, 1228 6th St. commander of Rockford’s new Amvets post, composed of world war 2 veterans, is shown getting his uniform ready for the parade. Peterson, who served nearly five years and was overseas 30 months, was an aviation cadet at the Chapel Hill, N.C., pre-flight school when he left the service last November. He survived the Jap attack on Pearl Harbor and the Battle of the Midway while serving with the navy.”
