  • Began as Rockford and Interurban Railway (Mar 1896), and former West End Street Railway (1890 -1896)
  • First was Rockford Street Railway (org. 1880, chartered 1881) horse drawn trolley cars
  • Rockford Street Railway became Rockford City Railway Co. who had electric street car service, 1890
  • Later became the Rockford Traction Co., who failed in 1895


It’s not until 1971 that the city talks about buying it and operating RMTD.
