East High School 1941 graduate played organ for troops at Rheims Cathedral during liberation of France. Served with Patton’s Third Army, landed at Utah Beach, served as interpreter and translator in French and German, Served in American Military Government unit in Bamberg, Germany before returning to Rockford in 1946. Lloyd J. Behrens, born April 26, 1921, in Sterling, IL, the son of Fred and Emma (Folkers) Behrens.
attended Wallace Grade School and Sterling High School and graduated from Scovill Business College before enlisting in the U.S. Army, World War II.
He served in 90th Infantry Headquarters G-2 Section Counter Intelligence. Went to Military Intelligence School in Paris, France. The 90th Infantry landed on D-Day, Utah Beach, Normandy, with General Patton, 3rd Army. Participated in five Battles and Campaigns: Normandy, Northern France, Ardenns, Rhineland and Central Europe.
Married Marian Benson in Sterling. Two daughters, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren.
Owned 2 businesses. Involved in numerous community activities.
Died Jan. 2, 2015.
