This was, at one time, Rockford’s Y.M.C.A. with a trolley/streetcar moving along East State St. and Madison St. The three buildings at photo left of the YMCA building were razed.

Chaplain Ackley, asst morale officer and chief chaplain at Camp Grant delivered address before
Kiwanis on Tues Feb 4.. During wartime the main stress is to inspire a will to win; inspired with
confidence, upheld with devotion to country and for the cause for which they fought.
During Peacetime, the emphasis is on how to keep them happy; Y.M.C.A. programs,
education, Also Knights of Columbus, Jewish Welfare, the Liberty theater, library….
